The Team of PPTS Course 2025
The objective of the course is to compare between traditional operations and service planning, including scheduling procedures, and new approaches, to deal with and find solutions to persistent and realistic public transport problems. This course covers public transport planning topics identified as priorities for learning by participants in previous courses. They are designed to be relevant to all conventional and emerging public transport modes including bus, tram, rail and on-demand services
Graham Currie
Public Transport Research Group Monash University
Prof Currie is a renowned international Public Transport research leader and policy advisor with over 30 years experience. He has published more research papers in leading international peer research journals in this field than any other researcher in the world.

Oded Cats
Professor of Passenger Transport Systems, Head of Department Transport & Planning, TU Delft
Oded Cats’s research passion is to develop theories and models of multi-modal passenger transport networks by combining advancements from behavioral sciences, operations research and complex network theory. I am the Head of the Department of Transport & Planning and co-directing the Smart Public Transport Lab where I lead a research group and support transport agencies and operators’ decision making. I am the PI of the European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant 3MARS (2025-2029) and was also awarded with an ERC Starting Grant (CriticalMaaS, 2019-2023).

Avishai (Avi) Ceder
Technion – Israel Institute of Technology
Professor Avishai (Avi) Ceder is recognised internationally for his long contributions to transportation research. His Research interests include: Public Transport, Operations Research, Human Factors and Behavior, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Road Safety, Traffic Control, Logistics.

Niels van Oort
Smart Public Transport Lab, TU Delft
Course leader
Niels van Oort works as an Associate Professor Public Transport at Delft University of Technology and is co-director of the Smart Public Transport Lab. Via previous jobs as consultant and transport planner he has been involved in several public transport projects for over 15 years. His main fields of expertise are public transport planning, data-driven design, with special interest in the passenger perspective, service reliability and multimodality.
